"Hurricane" Earl

Many of you may recall that last August, LeeMichael and I got married at the Boston Public Library. You may also recall that a certain Hurricane Danny made a direct hit on the City of Boston on the very day that we got married.

That all worked out for the best despite much stress and reconfiguration.

Combined with our run in with a mostly unannounced rain storm without any real roof and very few windows, LeeMichael and I thought it was safe for us to assume that we would be safe from hurricanes in 2010. And then, Earl decided to steamroll towards the East Coast.

Problems with this scenario:

1.) We had no windows.

2.) WE HAD NO WINDOWS!!!!

3.) OMG - WE HAVE NO FREAKING WINDOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh - and we were going to be traveling to our friend's ranch in OK for the long weekend. At least we would probably be able to stay dry...

There had to be a solution. We called our contractor and he was very proud to be able to tell us that the windows were scheduled to arrive well in time and would all be installed prior to the storm. What a relief...

Yeah - when will we learn???

The windows arrived and they were the wrong color. Our contractor briefly tried to convince us that the wrong color was great, but then he gave it up, accepted his fate and began to wrap our house in multiple layers of Tyvek. We were not convinced and began to wonder if we should cancel our trip. The contractor - perhaps in hopes that the house would blow away - convinced us to head to OK and enjoy ourselves.

Reluctantly, we agreed.

And then things worked out.

Earl fizzled.

The house stayed dry.

And we - well we came back relaxed and ready for the next disaster.
